Research Capacity Building

The Gulf of Mottama Project (GoMP) collaborate with Myanmar Coastal Conservation Lab (MMCL) @ Point B Design Training and developed GoMP Conservation and Research Training Program to design and conduct conservation and natural resource research, training and activities. The program established a successful research training approach for faculty, students, and MCCL staff and interns, building skills, knowledge, and confidence for continued work in environmental research. The three major components are: (1) cross-cutting research skills among faculty and students, including research design, proposal writing, budget preparation, data management and analysis, and presenting research to diverse stakeholders; (2) specific technical skills related to particular research topics/methods, through targeted advising by GoMP staff and other external experts to university research teams, graduate students, and MCCL; (3) core learning and research skills, including critical thinking, systems thinking, mindfulness.

The program also includes a popular internship program, through which we could engage selected university students and recent graduates in improving their knowledge, skills, and interest in conservation and natural resource management research, as well as confidence, critical thinking, and cooperation skills.
